Argyle Pink Diamonds: All You Need To Know

There are many different types of diamonds – of different shapes, colors, and names. One such name is Argyle diamond. Ever heard of it?

Most people might not know about Argyle pink diamonds. That’s why we’ve put together everything you need to know about these diamonds in this blog.

What are Argyle Diamonds?

Argyle diamonds are pink diamonds found in the Argyle diamond mines of Australia. These diamonds are pink in color and extremely rare.

Of 15 million diamond carats of rough diamonds unearthed from this mine, only 1% were pink. Hence, they are considered to be more valuable. 90% of the world’s pink diamond supply comes from the Argyle mines.

Where are Argyle Diamonds Found?

Argyle pink diamonds are said to have been first unearthed from the Argyle diamond mine in Australia in 1983. The diamonds have different shades from pink to orangish, which reflect the colors of the landscape of Australia’s kimberley region.

Can There be Lab Grown Argyle Pink Diamonds?

While among the most preferred diamonds are colorless diamonds, some rare colored diamonds are most sought after. One of them is pink diamonds, and one of the reasons for their demand is their scarcity.

However, there’s an easy and affordable way to buy real pink diamonds for sale– lab grown pink diamonds. Lab created pink diamonds are eco-friendly, sustainable, and are much more affordable compared to mined diamonds.

Moreover, lab grown pink diamonds are indistinguishable from mined diamonds by the naked eye. Lab pink diamonds are composed of the same chemical and visual properties such as mined diamonds.

Should you Buy Lab Grown Pink Diamonds?

The answer is a definitive yes! And there are many reasons you should buy lab grown pink diamonds.

One of the biggest reasons to buy lab pink diamonds is that you can get them at a much affordable price compared to mined diamonds. For example, the cost of 1 carat diamond from the mine is anywhere around 70% more than the lab diamonds.

For the price you pay for a 1 carat diamond that is mined from the earth, you could get a bigger diamond if you choose lab grown diamonds.

Another factor that makes pink lab created diamonds better than Argyle diamonds is that lab diamonds are sustainable and eco-friendly. Lab diamonds are created in safe environments, which are conducive to human health and life, unlike diamond mines.

How are Pink Lab Diamonds Created?

Lab created pink diamonds are created by two methods – Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) and High Pressure, High Temperature (HPHT).

  • The CVD process involves placing a diamond seed in a chamber in which the seed is exposed to different kinds of gasses. The gasses are ionised and melted, leading to the formation of the diamond.

  • The HPHT process, the seed is exposed to high temperature and pressure that leads to the formation of the rough diamonds.

Both these processes are similar to how diamonds are formed under the surface of the earth. However, for pink diamonds, the level of temperature, pressure and exposure to gasses have to be extremely high, which gives it the pink hue. It is for this reason that pink diamonds are rare.

How are Pink Diamonds Graded?

Whether the diamonds are Argyle pink diamonds – those mined from the earth, or grown in the laboratory, they are graded. The best lab grown diamonds are graded on the intensity of the pink color along with other factors such as cut, clarity, and carat. Pink diamonds can have shades of other hues such as orange, brown, or purple. Some terms used for grading pink diamonds are faint pink, very light pink, light pink, fancy, fancy intense, fancy vivid, etc.

Are Pink Diamonds Suitable for All Types of Jewelry?

Whether you want it in an engagement ring or a necklace, pink lab diamonds go well with all kinds of jewelry. Celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez and Victoria Beckham’s pink diamond engagement rings are among the most memorable celebrity engagement rings.

Should you Buy a Pink Diamond?

Because pink mined diamonds are rare and because they’re extremely beautiful, they are much sought after. If you have a jewelry design that you want to customize with a pink diamond, you can definitely find the best lab grown pink diamonds.
